"Crazy Dog
Art" is a series of paintings that are inspired by my relationships
with my canine and feline companions and my life in the North
Georgia Mountains and the Southeastern Coast. If you
are a dog person or cat person or just love all animals then
my art will make you feel
good.
Although always creative, I did not start to paint
until I was encouraged to follow my "art" by my art therapy group
during a hospitalization for Bipolar Disorder. So I went out
and bought some supplies and started painting! That was about
10 years ago. I just started with experimenting with color and
went from there. My formal education had emphasized sciences
and literature through a systematic process of learning. In
contrast, my art education has been based in intuition and
exploration.
My roots are southern - my
father was from Appalachian Ohio and I grew up in the foothills of
the North Georgia Mountians. My heritage is a melange of American
Indian, Dutch, Welch, and possibly Creole. That makes for
some intersting cultural and genetic
interactions. The poems in these works are
written in Appalachian dialect and since I now live in Appalachia, I
usually speak Appalachian dialect.
Cat Rap and K-9 Rhyme come from
the place within me that has experienced the results of animal
neglect, abuse and cruelty. These are strong and disconcerting
works so view then with caution. I currently plan to take them
on exhibit as a fundraiser for animal humane
organizations
